Frequently asked questions
How do I connect my NAS?
Open Settings (gear icon) in the app and tap “Search for NAS on the network” (same Wi-Fi, no VPN), or enter the address (with https), user name, and password. The NAS must be reachable with a valid certificate. The user needs access to Audio Station.
Can I try the app without a NAS?
Yes, with “Try the demo” on the start screen or in Settings. You hear sample music that is part of the app.
Where is my music on the iPhone and how much space does it use?
Downloaded songs are in the app's storage on the iPhone, not in the backup. Under “Storage” in Settings you see the space used and set a limit.
Why are some songs greyed out?
Songs that are only on the NAS are greyed out without a network. Downloaded songs (checkmark) also play offline.
Does it work in the car?
Yes, with CarPlay: Home, library, playlists, and settings. “Hey Siri, play my favorites with NAS Player” works as well. See all Siri commands.
The help in the app
The in-app help explains all symbols and gestures: tap the logo at the top left → “About NAS Player” → “Symbols and Controls”.
How does favorites sync work?
Turn it on under Settings → Favorites. The app then keeps the files “Favoriten.m3u” and “NASPlayer-Favoriten.json” in the “playlists” folder on your NAS and compares them with your iPhone, so your favorites are the same on all your devices. Requirement: the NAS user needs File Station permission in DSM and write access to the “music” share. If a group grants write access, “read only” on the user does not help. If something is missing, the option is greyed out and tells you why.
Where do song lyrics come from, and how do I change the speed?
Lyrics come from Audio Station on your NAS, not from the internet. If a song has lyrics, a “Lyrics” button appears in the player. The speed (0.75× to 2×) can be changed for songs whose genre is audiobook or radio play (and equivalent genres, see the in-app help), also in CarPlay.
