Releases
What each released version of NAS Player brought. Every version includes everything from the versions before it.
Version 3.2
October 26, 2026
Genres and display
- Multiple genres: a song with several genres (entered with a semicolon in Audio Station, for example “Country; Rock”) appears in each of them, in the genre list, on the genre page and in CarPlay. After the update the app reads the genres once more (on Wi-Fi, automatically)
- “NAS not reachable” no longer shows by mistake while the app is reading songs from the NAS
Version 3.1
October 25, 2026
Favorites and library
- Sync favorites with your NAS (optional, in Settings): songs, albums and artists you mark as favorites are kept in two small files in the “playlists” folder on your NAS and apply on all your devices. The NAS user needs File Station permission and write access to the “music” share
- The library updates itself when something changes on the NAS (can be turned off)
- Clean up storage: “Remove all”; the display and counters while downloading are more accurate
Listening
- AirPlay button in the player: play your music on a speaker or device
- Audiobooks and radio plays (genre such as “Audiobook”, “Hörbuch” or “Audio Drama”): speed from 0.75× to 2×, pitch is kept, remembered per album, also in CarPlay
- Song lyrics when Audio Station has them (button in the player); for downloaded songs also without a connection
- Genres list their albums in order (CD1, CD2 …)
- Seeking no longer jumps back
Downloading and streaming
- Every song is transferred only once and saved while you listen; albums download faster
- On cellular the app only prefetches a little of the next song, so the current one is not slowed down
Version 3.0
October 21, 2026
Downloads and storage
- Download only on Wi-Fi or only while charging, each with a “Download anyway” override; targeted downloads ask first
- Download your whole library to the iPhone at once, with a prompt about size, free space and limit; favorites first, then recently played, then the rest, with overall progress and pause
- Download history with a queue and “Try again”
- Depending on your connection, 1 song at a time on cellular, 2 on Wi-Fi away from home, 3 on your home network
- Usage overview for Wi-Fi and cellular, with a notice above 1 GB per month
- Check and repair downloaded files; clean up storage with multi-select; covers stored as small thumbnails
Listening
- Sleep timer in the full-screen player: 15, 30 or 60 minutes, end of the song or the album, with a gentle fade-out
- Your own playlists, “Save as playlist” for the up-next queue, and cover headers for all playlists
- New album page with a cover that shrinks as you scroll and the title in the bar; zoom transition from the artist page; lock-screen cover changes instantly with each song
- Statistics and a year in review (listening time, plays, top lists, habits, swipeable cards), with a local reminder on January 1 and a banner in January. Everything stays on your iPhone.
CarPlay and connection
- If the connection to the NAS drops, playback pauses and shows why (connection lost, NAS not responding, playback paused) on the iPhone, in CarPlay and on the lock screen, then resumes by itself when the connection is back
- Calmer, flicker-free shuffle, repeat and favorite buttons in Now Playing
- Albums you remove disappear immediately; clearer error messages and a “Connection problems” section in the in-app help
Version 2.0
October 2026
CarPlay
- Tabs for Home (recently played and favorites), Library (albums, artists, genres, shuffle all, offline), Playlists and Settings
- Album pages with cover, name, artist and song count; covers appear instantly
- Offline notice “No connection to the NAS”, with NAS-only songs greyed out
- Now Playing with shuffle, repeat and favorite buttons, plus “Up Next”
Siri and Shortcuts
- “Play the album … with NAS Player”, play an artist shuffled, “Play my favorites”, “Shuffle my music”, “Shuffle my downloaded music”, “Play my most played songs”
- Several phrasings (“with”, “in” or “on” NAS Player); offline, only downloaded songs play. All commands
Library
- Genres, with a cover mix per genre, and multi-disc albums with “CD 1”, “CD 2” headings
- “Play” and “Shuffle” for whatever a list currently shows (All, Offline or Favorites)
- Letter index along the edge of the Songs and Artists lists
- “Search for NAS on the network” finds your NAS on the home network and fills in the address
- The address field is pre-filled with “https://”
Design
- The app speaks English, Czech, Spanish, Italian and French as well as German, including CarPlay and Siri
- Album page in the color of the cover, with a zoom transition from the tile and back
- Full-screen player grows out of the mini player, with a background in the cover color that changes softly with each song and no white flash
- Transparent mini player; shuffle, favorite and repeat show their state like in Apple’s Music app
